of its hill top

Waltham.
Steve is the
President of
Electronic
Fasteners, a
distributor of
fasteners and
other products
to manufacturing
companies. He
invested in a
network
infrastructure
to meet the
needs of his
customers for
logistics
management. He
saw the
opportunity to
leverage this
investment to
provide
outsourced data
storage
services. He saw
the opportunity
to expand these
services and
grow his
customer base.
He hired top
staff and made a
major investment
in additional
infrastructure,
spinning out
NEDS as a new
business housed
within
Electronic
Fasteners'
facilities.

Steve Maliniak, President, Whitaker Company, announced the sale of
his company to ThyssenKrupp of Grandview, MO. Whitaker Company is the largest stair lift and home
elevator company dealer in the US. It has six offices in the Northeast. ThyssenKrupp is a leading
manufacturer of stair lifts and home elevators and it has 11 company owned dealerships and 1000
independent dealers.

Mike Dempsey's company, Radianse, was featured in major articles in both
the Boston Globe and the Eagle-Tribune on Sunday, August 15.
The Boston Globe's magazine cover article was on Mass General Hospital's
new "operating room of the future." One of the technologies being used is
RFID from Radianse.
The Eagle-Tribune published two stories in the business section by Andy
Murray on RFID. and the way RFID is being utilized in a range of
industries. The stories focused on Radianse and MGH. Radianse is
headquartered in Lawrence.
Mike recently closed on a $9m round of funding which will be used to sell
and deploy Radianse technology in the health care industry.

FierceBiotech
Synta
Pharmaceuticals and Therion Biologics have been named to "The Fierce 15,” a list of the best
emerging biotech companies, by FierceBiotech, a daily publication serving the industry.
John Carrol,
editor, said, "The Fierce 15 list represents the best companies in biotechnology research and
development. Their outstanding management and research teams are shepherding some of the most
promising new treatments and technologies toward the promised land of FDA approval."
Mark
Leuchtenberger is the CEO of Therion Biologics. The company was selected because it moved
quickly through a Phase III trial and received FDA approval for its "Panvac" vaccine and is on a
fast path to market approval for this treatment for pancreatic cancer.
Safi Bahcal is the
CEO of Synta Pharmaceuticals. The company was selected because in only two years it has gone
from a subsidiary of a Japanese firm to an aggressive, independent up-and-comer with promising
drugs in clinical trials and a growing list of top executives. It has two cancer drugs in
multiple Phase II trials and several candidates for immune disorders.

company, Xcellerex, was recently selected by Contract Pharma, a leading trade publication, as one
of the "10 Top Biopharma Companies to Watch". (July/August 2004 issue)
Xcellerex was
selected because it has so quickly established itself as a leading contract manufacturer of
biologics. It has introduced a new manufacturing process paradigm that greatly improves time
to clinical trials, time to market and increases manufacturing line flexibility. It does the
job cheaper, faster, better.

New Hampshire’s Governor Craig Benson visited CEO
Roundtable member Kedar Gupta’s company, GT Equipment Technologies, in Merrimack, NH.
The Governor congratulated Mr. Gupta on receiving a contract from the U.S. Department of
Energy to develop a process to lower the cost of solar energy. GT Equipment develops
and manufactures machines to make solar energy cells and silicon wafers.

Vinit Nijhawan, CEO of Taral Networks, announced that his
company has acquired Schlumberger Messaging Solutions in the United Kingdom. The name
for the combined companies is Airwide Solutions Inc. The companies both sell messaging
technology to wireless carriers around the globe. Taral’s focus is media messaging and
Schlumberger’s focus is text messaging.

Richard Faubert, CEO of AmberWave Systems in Salem, NH,
announced an additional $21m in venture funding. AmberWave Systems has developed
advanced technology for the manufacturing of semiconductors using “strained silicon.”
It is licensing this technology to semiconductor wafer and chip manufacturers.

Charles Sherwood, CEO, Anika Therapeutics, announced an
exclusive worldwide agreement with Ortho Neutrogena for the development and commercialization of
Anika’s cosmetic tissue augmentation therapy. This new therapy is now in Phase III trials.

July, 2004 -- Boston Globe and Mass High Tech
Brian McKernan’s company, Agencourt Bioscience, and Broad
Institute have published the full sequence of a dog genome containing 2.5 billion DNA base pairs.
The results are now available to researchers in a public database. The work will help with
research on human health by providing markers for different diseases like cancer, heart disease,
and autoimmune disorders. The dog genome is approximately the same size as the human genome.
The study was funded by the National Human Genome Research Institute. Agencourt is the only
commercial company to receive funding from the Institute. It contributed its work at cost the
project. The Broad Institute is a nonprofit collaboration of Harvard and MIT.
