Mercia Tapping, Founder and Chairman, AllergyBuyersClub.com, is featured in this week's Boston Business Journal in the Growth Tools section (pg 40 & 41). Sean McFadden of the BBJ wrote the report.

In the article Mercia gives credit to CEO Roundtable members for helping her get through the long dark tunnel of start-up boot strapping and the pains of rapid growth. She is now profitable and has passed the $10m milestone. Two members of CEO Roundtable now serve on her board of advisors and she hired another member to run her operations. CEO Roundtable gave her the confidence to reject the advice of VCs and stay with her original vision of a company built around community and product evaluations.

Mercia Tapping is a member of the CEO Roundtable for high tech companies. We are very proud of Mercia's success.

May 2005

Scott Gillis and his company, Nucryst Pharmaceuticals, in Wakefield, MA are on the front page of the today's Boston Globe Business Section (pg. F10) The headline is, "Worth more than its weight in silver for burns". The long article reports that Nucryst has received FDA approval to market a new form of its Acticoat treatment for burns. Silver particles are very good at killing bacteria and protecting the body from infection as the burn heals.

The development of nanosized particles increased the effectiveness of the treatment. The new version is a foam of nanoparticles of silver that has advantages over the current dressing because it will adhere better to hard to reach areas and penetrate the skin deeper to kill bacteria while the burn heals. Nucryst markets Acticoat through Smith & Nephew to hospitals and burn units.

Congratulations to Scott and his team. They have successfully taken nanotechnology from the lab to the market.

Scott Gillis is a member of one of the CEO Roundtables for biotech companies. We are proud to have Scott in the peer group.

February, 2005

The Eagle-Tribune (Feb 10) reports that Mike Dempsey's company, Radianse Inc., has redefined the market paradigm for powerful RFID trackers.  It has started to deliver $10 RFID tags that transmit to a receiver.  This is new price point for this type of technology.  Radianse focuses on the hospital market and its new tags are disposable.  They can be used to economically track patients within a hospital, making sure that the right patient is in the right place receiving the right treatment.  This system has major implications for the quality and cost of treatment in hospitals.  Previous versions of active RFID tags cost much more and are used primarily to track capital equipment.
